Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and I were walking, and his blessed hand was in my hand. A man came before us whose outward condition was wretched. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Are you Abu so-and-so? How did you come to this state that I see? He said: Because of hardship and illness, O Messenger of Allah! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Shall I not teach you some words by which Allah Almighty will remove hardship and illness from you? He said: No; I would not even be pleased, in exchange for them, to have taken part with you in the Battle of Badr and the Battle of Uhud. The narrator states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laughed, then he said: "Can the people of Badr and the people of Uhud reach the rank that the content poor man reaches?" The narrator states: Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Messenger of Allah! Here I am; teach them to me. The narrator states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Recite: "I put my trust in the Ever-Living, the Self-Sustaining, who will never die. All praise belongs to Allah Almighty, who has taken no son, who has no partner in sovereignty, and who is free of weakness so as to need any helper; and proclaim His greatness with full devotion." The narrator states: Then on one occasion the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to me when my condition had improved, and he said: What has happened? I said: O Messenger of Allah! I have been reciting continually the words you taught me.
Abu Ya'la recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Ubaydah al-Rabadhi, who is da'if (weak).
