Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 11102

Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) states: (Allah Almighty says:) "Those who exchanged the blessing of Allah for disbelief and settled their people in the abode of ruin." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: This was revealed about the boastful ones from Banu Makhzum and Banu Umayyah. As for Banu Makhzum, Allah Almighty broke their back on the occasion of the Battle of Badr; as for Banu Umayyah, they were given respite for a fixed term.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains a narrator, Amr Dhu Murr, from whom no one other than Abu Ishaq al-Sabi'i narrated; the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).
