Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates concerning this saying of Allah Almighty, (Allah Almighty says:) "If there were a Qur'an by which the mountains could be moved, or the earth split apart, or the dead spoken to." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The people said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "If it is as you say, then show us our elders who have died before, so that we may speak with them, and open up for us these mountains of Makkah which have hemmed us in." Then this verse was revealed concerning it: "If there were a Qur'an by which the mountains could be moved, or by which the earth could be split apart, or by which the dead could be spoken to."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains a narrator, Qabus bin Abi Zabyan, and he is da'if (weak), though he has also been declared trustworthy.
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith narrated by Sayyiduna al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with him) will come in the tafsir of Ta Sin Mim al-Shu'ara'.
