Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 10936

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrated: A man came to the Messenger of Allah and said: "O Messenger of Allah! I love you so much that I keep remembering you, and if I do not come and see you, I feel as though my soul will leave me. Then the thought came to me that if I enter Paradise, my rank will be lower than your rank, and this weighed heavily upon me. I would love to be with you in the same rank." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not give him any reply, and Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, they will be with those upon whom Allah Almighty has bestowed favour, from among the prophets." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) then had that man called and recited this verse to him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ata' bin al-Sa'ib, who had become mukhtalit (confused in memory).
