Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 1088

Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked for water for ablution. It was said to him (peace and blessings be upon him): We can only find water in a waterskin (made from the hide) of a dead (animal). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: Had you tanned it? The people replied: Yes! He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Then bring it! For this (tanning) is the means of purification for it (the hide of the dead animal).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good).
