Book of Tafsir
قَوْلُهُ تَعَالَى : الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ قَالُوا إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ .
The saying of Allah the Exalted: "Who, when disaster strikes them, say: Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return"

عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ قَوْلُهُ : الَّذِينَ إِذَا أَصَابَتْهُمْ مُصِيبَةٌ قَالُوا إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ أُولَئِكَ عَلَيْهِمْ صَلَوَاتٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِمْ وَرَحْمَةٌ وَأُولَئِكَ هُمُ الْمُهْتَدُونَ . قَالَ : أَخْبَرَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ أَنَّ الْعَبْدَ الْمُؤْمِنَ إِذَا سَلَّمَ لِأَمْرِ اللَّهِ وَرَجَعَ ، فَاسْتَرْجَعَ عِنْدَ الْمُصِيبَةِ ، كُتِبَ لَهُ ثَلَاثُ خِصَالٍ مِنَ الْخَيْرِ : الصَّلَاةُ مِنَ اللَّهِ ، وَالرَّحْمَةُ ، وَتَحْقِيقُ سَبِيلِ الْهُدَى .
وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَنِ اسْتَرْجَعَ عِنْدَ الْمُصِيبَةِ جَبَرَ اللَّهُ مُصِيبَتَهُ ، وَأَحْسَنَ عُقْبَاهُ ، وَجَعَلَ لَهُ خَلَفًا يَرْضَاهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
وَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " مَنِ اسْتَرْجَعَ عِنْدَ الْمُصِيبَةِ جَبَرَ اللَّهُ مُصِيبَتَهُ ، وَأَحْسَنَ عُقْبَاهُ ، وَجَعَلَ لَهُ خَلَفًا يَرْضَاهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: (Allah Almighty says:) "Those who, when a calamity strikes them, say: Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return. It is they upon whom are blessings from their Lord, and mercy, and it is they who are rightly guided." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Allah Almighty has informed that when a believing servant submits to the command of Allah Almighty, turns back to Allah Almighty, and recites 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un (We belong to Allah and to Him we return)' at the time of calamity, three kinds of good are recorded for him: blessings (salah) from Allah Almighty, mercy, and the path of truth being made clear. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever recites 'Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un' at the time of calamity, Allah Almighty will mend (the hardship arising from) his calamity, grant him a good outcome, and give him in place (of what he lost) something with which he will be pleased."
