Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates concerning this saying of Allah Almighty: (Allah Almighty says:) "And say: Hittah" [al-Baqarah: 58]. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) says: They said: 'Hintah hamra'u fiha sha'irah' (red wheat with barley in it). This is what is meant by the saying of Allah Almighty: "Then those who did wrong changed the word that had been said to them into something else."
Al-Tabarani recorded it from his teacher Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Sa'id bin Abi Maryam, who is da'if (weak).
