Uthman bin Hayyan narrates: I used to visit Sayyidah Umm al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with her) and write down (hadith) in her presence. Once I caught a louse or a flea and threw it into the fire. She said: "My son, do not do that, for I heard Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) say: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: '(No one) is to be punished with the punishment of Allah Almighty.'"
Al-Tabarani and al-Bazzar recorded it, and he (al-Bazzar) recorded these words: "No one punishes with fire except the Lord of the fire." Its chain contains Sa'id al-Barrad, whom I do not know; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). Later will come the hadith about Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), which mentions that he had a killer burned after he had been executed.
