عَنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ سَعِيدِ بْنِ الْعَاصِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَدِّهِ قَالَ : قَدِمَتْ بَكْرُ بْنُ وَائِلٍ مَكَّةَ ، فَقَالَ النَّبِيُّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لِأَبِي بَكْرٍ : " ائْتِهِمْ فَاعْرِضْ عَلَيْهِمْ " . فَأَتَاهُمْ ، فَقَالَ : مَنِ الْقَوْمُ ؟ فَقَالُوا : بَنُو ذُهَلِ بْنِ ثَعْلَبَةَ ، فَقَالَ : لَسْتُ إِيَّاكُمْ أُرِيدُ ، أَنْتُمُ الْأَذْنَابُ ، فَقَامَ إِلَيْهِ دَغْفَلٌ ، فَقَالَ : مَنْ أَنْتَ ؟ قَالَ : رَجُلٌ مِنْ قُرَيْشٍ ، قَالَ : أَمِنْ بَنِي هَاشِمٍ ؟ قَالَ : لَا . قَالَ : فَمِنْ بَنِي أُمَيَّةَ ؟ قَالَ : لَا . قَالَ : فَأَنْتُمْ مِنَ الْأَذْنَابِ .
ثُمَّ عَادَ إِلَيْهِمْ ثَانِيَةً فَقَالَ : مَنِ الْقَوْمُ ؟ فَقَالُوا : بَنُو ذُهَلِ بْنِ شَيْبَانَ ، قَالَ : فَعَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمُ الْإِسْلَامَ ، قَالُوا : حَتَّى يَجِيءَ شَيْخُنَا فُلَانٌ - قَالَ خَلَّادٌ : أَحْسَبُهُ قَالَ : الْمُثَنَّى بْنُ خَارِجَةَ - فَلَمَّا جَاءَ شَيْخُهُمْ عَرَضَ عَلَيْهِمْ أَبُو بَكْرٍ - رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ - قَالَ : إِنَّ بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَ الْفُرْسِ حَرْبًا ، فَإِذَا فَرَغْنَا مِمَّا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ عُدْنَا فَنَظَرْنَا ، فَقَالَ لَهُ أَبُو بَكْرٍ : أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ غَلَبْتُمُوهُمْ أَتَتِّبِعُنَا عَلَى أَمْرِنَا ؟ قَالَ : لَا نَشْتَرِطُ لَكَ هَذَا عَلَيْنَا ، وَلَكِنْ إِذَا فَرَغْنَا فِيمَا بَيْنَنَا وَبَيْنَهُمْ عُدْنَا فَنَظَرْنَا فِي مَا تَقُولُ .
فَلَمَّا الْتَقَوْا يَوْمَ ذِي قَارٍ هُمْ وَالْفُرْسُ ، قَالَ شَيْخُهُمْ : مَا اسْمُ الرَّجُلِ الَّذِي دَعَاكُمْ إِلَى اللَّهِ ؟ قَالُوا : مُحَمَّدٌ ، قَالُوا : هُوَ شِعَارُكُمْ . فَنُصِرُوا عَلَى الْقَوْمِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " بِي نُصِرُوا " .
رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ ، رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ غَيْرَ خَلَّادِ بْنِ عِيسَى ، وَهُوَ ثِقَةٌ .

Khalid bin Sa'id bin al-As narrates from his father, from his grandfather: (The tribe of) Bakr bin Wa'il came to Makkah. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him): "Go to them and offer them Islam." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came to them and asked: "Who are you people?" They said: "Banu Dhuhl bin Tha'labah." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "It was not you I wanted to come to; you are like the tails." Then Daghfal stood up before him and asked: "Who are you?" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "A man from Quraysh." He asked: "Are you from Banu Hashim?" Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "No." He asked: "Are you from Banu Umayyah?" He replied: "No." So he said: "Then you people are also among the tails." Then he went to them a second time and asked: "Who are you people?" They said: "Banu Dhuhl bin Shayban." The narrator says: Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) offered them Islam. They said: "Let our elder so-and-so come first." The narrator Khallad said: I think they mentioned the name al-Muthanna bin Kharijah. When their elder came, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) presented Islam to them. He said: "There is a war going on between us and the Persians. When we are done with this war between us and them, we will come back and then consider what you have said." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "What do you think: if you overcome them, will you follow us in our matter?" He said: "We do not make that a condition upon ourselves, but when we are done with what is going on between us and them, we will come back and consider what you have said." When they and the Persians met in battle on the day of Dhu Qar, their elder said: "What was the name of the man who invited you to Allah?" The people said: "Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." They said: "That is your battle cry." Then they were given victory over the enemy, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They were given victory because of me."
