Sayyiduna Asim bin Amr bin Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: After the Battle of Uhud some men of the tribes of Adal and al-Qarah came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They said: "O Messenger of Allah, Islam is found among us; send with us some men from among your Companions who will acquaint us with the teachings of the religion, teach us the Qur'an, and instruct us in the teachings of Islam." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent six men from among his Companions; one of them was Sayyiduna Marthad bin Abi Marthad al-Ghanawi (may Allah be pleased with him), who was an ally of Sayyiduna Hamzah bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator says: after this he narrated the whole incident. The narrator states: As for Sayyiduna Marthad bin Abi Marthad (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Bukayr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Asim bin Abi al-Aqlah (may Allah be pleased with him), they said: "By Allah, we will never accept any covenant or any pact from an idolater." They kept fighting those people, until those (disbelieving) people martyred them.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
