Sayyiduna Abu Umamah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Prepare for this town whose people are wrongdoers" (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant Khaybar), "if Allah Almighty wills, He will grant you its conquest. And let no one go out with me whose riding animal is unruly (that is, not under control) or extremely weak." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) went to his mother and said: "Provide me with provisions for the journey, for the Messenger of Allah has ordered us to prepare for battle." That lady said: "You are going, while you know that I need your company in every matter?" Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I cannot stay behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." So that lady, pointing to her breast, implored him by the milk she had fed him (that he should stay). Then that lady came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) secretly. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go! Your matter will be resolved." Then Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned his face away from him. He said: "O Messenger of Allah! I see that you have turned your face away from me; this must surely be because of something about which some news has reached you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You are the one whose mother implored him by her milk (and you still did not listen to her?) Does any one of you think that when he is with his parents, or with one of them, he is not in the path of Allah? Rather, he is in the path of Allah (at that time) when he treats them both well and fulfils their right." Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) says: After that I held back for several years and took part in no battle, until my mother passed away. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah, and a young man from Banu Amir set out with him, riding a hard-to-manage young camel. He was riding along at one side of the road while the people were also travelling. His camel fell into a pit, and he called out: "O family of Amir!" He and his camel shook violently, and then the men of his people came and carried him off. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) travelled on until he came to Khaybar and halted there. He summoned al-Tufayl bin al-Harith al-Khuza'i and said: "Go to your people and get reinforcements against this town whose people are wrongdoers, for if Allah Almighty wills, Allah Almighty will soon grant you its conquest." Sayyiduna al-Tufayl (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! You are sending me away from yourself. By Allah! To die on a day when I am near you is more beloved to me than to live while I am far from you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What must be, must be. Go." He said: "O Messenger of Allah! It may be that I will not meet you again, so give me as provision something by which I may live (that is, give me some advice)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Are you master of your tongue?" He said: "If I am not master of my tongue, what then would I be master of?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Are you master of your hand?" He said: "If I am not master of my hand, what then would I be master of?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Then say only good with your tongue, and extend your hand only towards good." The narrator Ibn Abi Karimah stated: In the writing of the narrator Abu Abd al-Rahim, in his own handwriting,
I found this narration, in which are these words: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Spread the greeting of peace, give food generously, and be shy before Allah Almighty just as you are shy before an awe-inspiring man of your clan. Your character should be good, and when you do (some) evil, then do good as well, for good deeds remove evil deeds."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains Ali bin Yazid, who is da'if (weak).
