وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ مُغَفَّلٍ الْمُزَنِيِّ قَالَ : كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - بِالْحُدَيْبِيَةِ فِي أَصْلِ الشَّجَرَةِ الَّتِي قَالَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَكَانَ يَقَعُ مِنْ أَغْصَانِ الشَّجَرَةِ عَلَى ظَهْرِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - وَعَلِيُّ بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ ، وَسُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - لِعَلِيٍّ - عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ - : " اكْتُبْ بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ " . فَأَخَذَ سُهَيْلٌ بِيَدِهِ ، فَقَالَ : مَا نَعْرِفُ الرَّحْمَنَ الرَّحِيمَ ، اكْتُبْ فِي قَضِيَّتِنَا مَا نَعْرِفُ ، فَقَالَ : " اكْتُبْ بِاسْمِكَ اللَّهُمَّ " فَكَتَبَ " .
هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ " فَأَمْسَكَ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ : لَقَدْ ظَلَمْنَاكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ رَسُولَهُ ، اكْتُبْ فِي قَضِيَّتِنَا مَا نَعْرِفُ قَالَ : " اكْتُبْ هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، وَأَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " فَكَتَبَ .
فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا ثَلَاثُونَ شَابًّا عَلَيْهِمُ السِّلَاحُ ، فَثَارُوا فِي وُجُوهِنَا فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَأَخَذَ اللَّهُ أَبْصَارَهُمْ فَقُمْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " هَلْ جِئْتُمْ فِي عَهْدِ أَحَدٍ ؟ أَوْ هَلْ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ [ أَحَدٌ ] أَمَانًا ؟ " ، قَالُوا : لَا ، فَخَلَّى سَبِيلَهُمْ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : ( وَهُوَ الَّذِي كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ بِبَطْنِ مَكَّةَ مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ أَظْفَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرًا ) . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدٌ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ أَهْلَ مَكَّةَ " فَأَمْسَكَ سُهَيْلُ بْنُ عَمْرٍو بِيَدِهِ فَقَالَ : لَقَدْ ظَلَمْنَاكَ إِنْ كُنْتَ رَسُولَهُ ، اكْتُبْ فِي قَضِيَّتِنَا مَا نَعْرِفُ قَالَ : " اكْتُبْ هَذَا مَا صَالَحَ عَلَيْهِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عَبْدِ الْمُطَّلِبِ ، وَأَنَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ " فَكَتَبَ .
فَبَيْنَا نَحْنُ كَذَلِكَ خَرَجَ عَلَيْنَا ثَلَاثُونَ شَابًّا عَلَيْهِمُ السِّلَاحُ ، فَثَارُوا فِي وُجُوهِنَا فَدَعَا عَلَيْهِمْ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - فَأَخَذَ اللَّهُ أَبْصَارَهُمْ فَقُمْنَا إِلَيْهِمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - : " هَلْ جِئْتُمْ فِي عَهْدِ أَحَدٍ ؟ أَوْ هَلْ جَعَلَ لَكُمْ [ أَحَدٌ ] أَمَانًا ؟ " ، قَالُوا : لَا ، فَخَلَّى سَبِيلَهُمْ ، فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ : ( وَهُوَ الَّذِي كَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنْكُمْ وَأَيْدِيَكُمْ عَنْهُمْ بِبَطْنِ مَكَّةَ مِنْ بَعْدِ أَنْ أَظْفَرَكُمْ عَلَيْهِمْ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ بَصِيرًا ) . رَوَاهُ أَحْمَدُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ رِجَالُ الصَّحِيحِ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mughaffal al-Muzani (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at al-Hudaybiyah at the foot of a tree; this is the occasion which Allah Almighty has mentioned in the Qur'an. The branches of the tree were touching the back of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and Suhayl bin Amr (the representative of the polytheists) were in front of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "Write: 'Bismillah al-Rahman al-Rahim (In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful).'" Suhayl took hold of the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "We do not know the words 'al-Rahman' and 'al-Rahim'. Have it written in the way that is familiar to us." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Write: 'Bismika Allahumma (In Your name, O Allah).'" Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Write: 'This is the agreement which Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), the Messenger of Allah, is making with the people of Makkah.'" Suhayl bin Amr took hold of his hand and said: "We would be wronging you if you were His Messenger. Write in the way that is familiar to us." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Write that this is the agreement which Muhammad bin Abdullah bin Abd al-Muttalib is making; and I am, besides, the Messenger of Allah." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) wrote it. While these people were still there, thirty young men came out to us, carrying weapons, and they confronted us. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed against them, and Allah Almighty seized their sight. We got up and went to them, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Have you come under anyone's covenant? Has anyone granted you protection?" They replied: "No." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) let them go, and Allah Almighty revealed this verse: "It is He who withheld their hands from you and your hands from them near Makkah (at al-Hudaybiyah), after He had given you victory over them; and Allah sees whatever you do."
