عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا قَالَ كُنَّا مَعَ النَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَارْتَفَعَتْ رِيحُ جِيفَةٍ مُنْتِنَةٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَآلِهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَتَدْرُونَ مَا هَذِهِ الرِّيحُ هَذِهِ رِيحُ الَّذِينَ يَغْتَابُونَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him), he says: We were with the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when the smell of decaying carcasses began to rise. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Do you know what this foul smell is? This is the stench of those who backbite the believers.
