بَابُ يُسَلِّمُ الْمَاشِي عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ
Chapter: The walker greets the seated
Al-Adab al-Mufrad 992 — The walker greets the seated
حَدَّثَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ الْمُبَارَكِ، عَنْ يَحْيَى، قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا زَيْدُ بْنُ سَلاَّمٍ، عَنْ جَدِّهِ أَبِي سَلاَّمٍ، عَنْ أَبِي رَاشِدٍ الْحُبْرَانِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ شِبْلٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ يَقُولُ: ”لِيُسَلِّمِ الرَّاكِبُ عَلَى الرَّاجِلِ، وَلْيُسَلِّمِ الرَّاجِلُ عَلَى الْقَاعِدِ، وَلْيُسَلِّمِ الأَقَلُّ عَلَى الأَكْثَرِ، فَمَنْ أَجَابَ السَّلاَمَ فَهُوَ لَهُ، وَمَنْ لَمْ يُجِبْ فَلا شَيْءَ لَهُ.“
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdur Rahman bin Shibl (may Allah be pleased with him) that I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) say: "The rider should greet the one who is walking, and the one who is walking should greet the one who is sitting, and those who are fewer in number should greet those who are more. So whoever responds to the greeting, the reward is for him, and whoever does not respond, there is nothing for him."
