❖ Question:
What is the ruling of the funeral prayer (ṣalāt al-janāzah)?
❖ Answer:
The funeral prayer is farḍ kifāyah. If a group of people performs it, the obligation is fulfilled on behalf of the entire community.
❖ Statement of Ḥāfiẓ al-Nawawī (رحمه الله, 676H):
أجمعوا على أنها فرض كفاية .
“The scholars are unanimously agreed that the funeral prayer is farḍ kifāyah.”
