I lead them in prayer exactly as the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did. I do not allow any deficiency or excess. When I lead them in the Isha prayer, I prolong the first two rak’ahs and shorten the last two rak’ahs. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: O Abu Ishaq! This is my good opinion about you. Then Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent some men with Saad (may Allah be pleased with him) to Kufa to inquire from the people so that no mosque was left unvisited. When I asked everyone, all praised Saad. When they went to the mosque of Banu Abs, one person stood up. His name was Usama bin Qatadah and his kunya was Abu Sa’dah. He said: When you swear by us, indeed Saad did not command the army, did not distribute the spoils equally, and was not just in his judgments. Saad (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah! I will also make three prayers: O Allah! If this servant of Yours is lying, showing off, and standing to speak falsely, then prolong his life, prolong his poverty, and put him into trials. Then this person used to say, I am very old and afflicted with trials. Saad’s curse has affected me. Abdul Malik bin Umair says: I saw this person later. Due to old age, his eyebrows had fallen over his eyes, and he used to molest small young girls and play hide and seek with them.”
