Narrated Abu Huraira (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “O people! Allah is pure and accepts only that which is pure, and indeed Allah has commanded the believers with something that He commanded the messengers. Thus He said: ‘O messengers! Eat from the good things and do righteous deeds.’ And Allah says: ‘O you who have believed! Eat from the pure provision which We have provided for you.’ Then the Prophet (PBUH) mentioned a person who travels a long journey, dusty, with disheveled hair, coming for Hajj, raising both hands towards the sky and praying: ‘O my Lord! O my Lord!’ While his food, drink, and clothing are all from unlawful wealth. He was raised on unlawful wealth. How will such a person’s prayer be accepted?”

❀ Allah Almighty said:
“Or who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness and says, ‘Indeed, I am of the Muslims.’ And not equal are the blind and the seeing, nor are the depths of darkness and the light. And those who disbelieve say about those who believe, ‘These are not but our apparent good tidings.’ Indeed, they will have a painful punishment. And Allah is the best of planners.”
(Note: The original Urdu text is slightly paraphrased here; the exact verse is:)
“Or who is better in speech than one who calls to Allah and does righteousness and says, ‘Indeed, I am of the Muslims.’ Does anyone do the work of removing distress when called upon? And does anyone else besides Allah do this? O people! You accept very little advice.”

❀ And Allah Almighty said: “And do not approach unlawful sexual intercourse. Indeed, it is ever an immorality and is evil as a way.”

Narrated Abu Al-As Saqafi (RA) that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: “(Every day) at midnight the gates of heaven are opened and a caller (angel) calls out: Is there anyone who asks so that his request is granted? Is there anyone who seeks so that his need is fulfilled? Is there anyone afflicted who prays for relief so that his affliction is removed? Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, accepts the prayer of every Muslim at midnight except the adulterer who waters (satisfies) through his private parts and the one who forcibly collects taxes.”

Explanation of Disliked and Forbidden Matters in Supplication

❀ Allah Almighty said:
“O mankind! Fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from it its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.”

❀ And Allah Almighty said: “O people! An example is presented, so listen to it carefully: Indeed, those you invoke besides Allah will never create [as much as] a fly, even if they gathered together for that purpose. And if the fly should steal away from them a [tiny] thing, they could not recover it from him. Weak are the pursuer and pursued.”
These people have not recognized Allah as He should be recognized. Indeed, Allah is Powerful and Exalted in Might.

❀ And Allah Almighty said: “Those whom you invoke besides Allah do not possess even the weight of a speck of dust in the heavens or the earth, nor do they have any partnership therein. And if you call them to guidance, they do not hear; and if they heard, they would not respond to you. On the Day of Resurrection, they will deny your association [with them].”
No one can give you such a true warning except a warner.

The Companions asked: “O Messenger of Allah! What is impatience?”
He (peace be upon him) said: “The supplicant says, ‘I have supplicated, I have supplicated,’ but he does not see his supplication being accepted, and he becomes weary and gives up supplicating.”

Explanation of Different Forms of Acceptance of Supplication

Sheikh Ahmad Shakir has declared it authentic.
It is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “When a Muslim makes a supplication that does not involve sin or severing of kinship, Allah Almighty grants him one of three things: (1) either his wish is fulfilled as per the supplication, (2) or his supplication is stored as a reward for the Hereafter, (3) or a calamity equivalent to the supplication is averted from him.” The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) said upon hearing this: “Then we will supplicate abundantly.” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “Allah’s treasures are vast.”
