The fasting person abandons his desires, his food, and his drink for My sake. And fasting is a shield against sins. If someone insults him or quarrels with him, he should say: I am fasting. By the One in Whose Hand is the soul of Muhammad (peace be upon him)! The smell from the mouth of a fasting person is better to Allah than the fragrance of musk. The fasting person will have two joys: one when he breaks his fast, he is happy then; and the other when he meets his Lord, he will be pleased with the reward of his fast.”

Avoiding Immoral Acts

O people! Listen, the deeds of Paradise are very difficult and hard. (This phrase was repeated three times.) Beware! O people! The deeds of Hellfire are easy and simple. The fortunate one is the one who avoids trials. And the most beloved sip to Allah Almighty is the sip of anger that a person drinks for the sake of Allah. Whoever swallows his anger, Allah fills his heart with faith.”

To Treat Others with Good Conduct

He said: I had a quarrel with one of my (Muslim) brothers, his mother was a non-Arab, I shamed him regarding his mother, so he complained about me to the Prophet (peace be upon him). When I met the Prophet (peace be upon him), he said: Abu Dharr! You are a man in whom the habit of ignorance (Jahiliyyah) exists. I said: O Messenger of Allah! The one who abuses others, abuses their mother and father. He said: Abu Dharr! You are a man in whom ignorance exists. They (whether born of a slave woman or a servant or the child of a servant) are your brothers, Allah has placed them under your authority. Feed them what you eat yourself and clothe them as you clothe yourself, and do not burden them with work beyond their capacity. If you do burden them (with difficult work), then help them.”

But if someone violated the sanctities of Allah, he would take revenge for Allah Almighty.”

“And Sayyiduna Abu Huraira (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) say: When Allah created mercy, He divided it into one hundred parts and kept ninety-nine parts with Himself. Then He sent down only one part of mercy to all creation. So, this one part of mercy is manifested in that all creatures show mercy to one another, even a mare does not allow her foal to suckle if it causes her pain and lifts her foot so as not to hurt her foal. So, if a person comes to know about all this mercy that is with Allah, he would never despair of attaining Paradise. And if a believer comes to know about all the punishment that is recorded with Allah, he would never be fearless of Hellfire.”

He came and sat near the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), placed his knees against the knees of the Prophet, and placed his palms on his thighs (like a student sitting before a teacher), and asked, ‘O Muhammad! (peace be upon him) tell me about Islam.’ The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Islam is that you testify that there is no deity worthy of worship except Allah and that Muhammad (peace be upon him) is His Messenger. Establish prayer, pay zakat, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House of Allah if you are able to do so.’ He said, ‘You have spoken the truth.’ Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, we were amazed that this man asked and then confirmed himself. He asked, ‘Inform me about Iman (faith).’ You said: ‘It is to believe in Allah, His angels, His books, His messengers, the Last Day (Day of Judgment), and to accept divine decree, whether good or bad.’ He said, ‘You have spoken the truth.’ He asked, ‘Then inform me about Ihsan (excellence in faith).’ You said: ‘It is to worship Allah as if you see Him, and if you do not see Him, then surely He sees you.’ He asked, ‘Tell me about the Hour (Day of Resurrection).’ You replied: ‘The one asked about the Hour knows no more than the one asking.’ He said, ‘Then tell me some signs of it.’ You said: ‘The slave girl will give birth to her mistress, and you will see barefoot, naked, destitute shepherds competing in the construction of tall buildings.’ Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said, then the questioner left, and I stayed for a while. Later, the Prophet asked me, ‘O Umar! Do you know who the questioner was?’ I said, ‘Allah and His Messenger know best.’ He said, ‘He was Jibril (Gabriel), who came to teach you your religion.'”
