● The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) liked white-colored clothing
❀ Allah Almighty has said:
“O children of Adam! Indeed We have bestowed upon you clothing to conceal your private parts and as adornment. But the clothing of righteousness – that is best. That is from the signs of Allah that perhaps they will remember.”
Hadith 1 :
“It is narrated from Hazrat Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: Wear white clothing, it is the best and finest of your garments, and also shroud your deceased in it.”
● Shirt is the preferred clothing
❀ Allah Almighty said:
“Take this shirt of mine and cast it over my father’s face; he will regain his sight. And bring all your family to me.”
Hadith 2 :
“And it is narrated from Hazrat Umm Salamah (RA) that the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) liked the shirt more than all other clothes.”
● Start wearing from the right side
Hadith 3 :
“And it is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) liked to start with the right side in wearing shoes, combing, performing ablution, and all other actions.”
● Wearing Fine Clothes on Friday
❀ Allah Almighty has said:
“O children of Adam! Wear your adornment at every prayer time, and eat and drink, but do not waste extravagantly. Indeed, He does not like the wasteful.”
Hadith 4:
Muhaddith Albani has declared it authentic.
“And it is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: If there is spaciousness, then how excellent it is that each one of you sets aside two garments specifically for Friday besides the clothes you wear for work.”
● The Obligation of Hijab
❀ Allah Almighty has said:
“O you who have believed, do not enter the houses of the Prophet except when you are permitted for a meal, without awaiting its readiness. But when you are invited, then enter; and when you have eaten, disperse without lingering for conversation. Indeed, that [behavior] was troubling the Prophet, and he is shy of [dismissing] you. But Allah is not shy of the truth. And when you ask [his wives] for something, ask them from behind a partition. That is purer for your hearts and their hearts. And it is not [conceivable or lawful] for you to harm the Messenger of Allah or to marry his wives after him, ever. Indeed, that would be in the sight of Allah an enormity.”
Hadith 5 :
“And it is narrated from Hazrat Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), ‘O Messenger of Allah! Both righteous and sinful people keep coming to your house. I wish you would order the Mothers of the Believers to observe hijab (veil).’ Then Allah Almighty revealed the verse of Hijab (the command of veil).”
Hadith 6 :
“And the pure wife of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), said that when the Messenger of Allah ﷺ intended to travel, he would cast lots among his wives to decide whom to take along. Whoever’s name was drawn, he would take her with him. She narrated that on one occasion during a battle, he cast lots in the same way and her name was drawn. She accompanied him. This event occurred after the command of observing hijab was revealed. She was placed on a camel along with the howdah (canopy), and similarly taken down. Thus, their journey continued. Then, when he returned from that battle and they reached near Medina, one night when the order to move camp was given, she went a little away from the camp to relieve herself and after finishing, returned to her howdah. At that moment, she realized that her necklace made of Dhafar gems had fallen somewhere on the way. She started searching for it and became so engrossed that she forgot about the caravan. Meanwhile, those who used to carry her howdah came and lifted it, placing it on the camel meant for her ride. They assumed she was sitting inside it. At that time, women were very light in weight, their bodies were not heavy with flesh because food was scarce. This was why when people lifted the howdah, its lightness did not seem unusual to them. She was also a young girl then. So, those people lifted the camel and moved on. She found her necklace after the army had passed. When she reached the camp, there was no one calling or responding. She sat where she had been sitting before. She was sure that soon they would realize her absence and come searching for her. She sat there and fell asleep.
Safwan bin Mu’tal Salmi was following the army (to pick up anything left behind as was the custom during travel). It was the last part of the night when he reached her place and saw a human shadow lying there. He came closer, recognized her immediately. He had seen her before the command of hijab was revealed. When he recognized her, he started saying “Inna lillahi” (Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return). She woke up at his voice and covered her face with the veil. By Allah! After that, he did not say a single word to her, nor did she hear any word from him except “Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un.” Then he made his camel sit and she mounted it. He led the camel on foot from the front. They met the army when it was midday and they had taken rest to avoid the heat. After that, whoever was to be killed was killed. Among those who led the accusation was Abdullah bin Ubayy ibn Salul, the hypocrite.
Upon reaching Medina, she fell ill and remained sick for a month. During this time, the talk of those who spread slander was widespread among the people, but she was unaware of it. Only one thing made her suspicious: during her illness, she did not see the kindness and affection from the Prophet ﷺ that she had seen during her previous illnesses. The Prophet ﷺ would come inside, greet her, ask only “How are you?” and then leave. His behavior made her suspicious, but she was unaware of the situation.
One day, when she was somewhat recovered but still weak, she went out accompanied by Umm Musṭaḥ (may Allah be pleased with her). They went towards “Manasi'” to relieve themselves, which they used to do only at night before latrines were built near their homes. Until then, they followed the old Arab custom of going far from the settlement to relieve themselves. They disliked having latrines near their homes due to the smell. Umm Musṭaḥ was the daughter of Abu Rahm bin Abd Manaf and her mother was the daughter of Sakhr bin Amir, making her the paternal aunt of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). Her son was Musṭaḥ bin Asāsa. After relieving themselves and starting to return home, Umm Musṭaḥ’s foot got caught in her own veil and she slipped. She exclaimed, “Musṭaḥ is ruined!” Aisha said, “You spoke badly; you are cursing a person who participated in the Battle of Badr.” She replied, “Wow! Haven’t you heard what they are saying?” Aisha asked what they said, and then she told her about the slanders. She was already ill, and hearing those words worsened her condition. When she reached home and the Prophet ﷺ came inside, he greeted and asked, “How is your health?” She requested permission to visit her parents’ home, intending to learn the truth of these rumors from them. The Prophet ﷺ permitted her, and she went to her parents’ house. She asked her mother what kind of talk people were spreading. Her mother said, “Daughter! Be patient. Rarely is there such a beautiful and charming woman married to a man who loves her and has children by her, yet people try to demean her like this.” She said, “SubhanAllah! Have people really spread such talk?” Her mother said yes. Then she began to cry and cried all night. Morning came but her tears did not stop, nor did sleep come.
Morning came and she was still crying. During this time, the Prophet ﷺ summoned Ali bin Abi Talib and Usama bin Zaid (may Allah be pleased with them) because no revelation had come to him regarding this matter. He wanted to consult them about releasing her because the revelation was delayed. Aisha said that Usama bin Zaid advised the Prophet ﷺ according to what he knew—that his wife (Aisha herself) was innocent of this slander. He also knew how much the Prophet ﷺ was attached to her. He said, “O Messenger of Allah! We know nothing but good about your wife.” Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “O Messenger of Allah! Allah has not burdened you; there are many other women besides her. You can also inquire from her slave, Barirah (may Allah be pleased with her), about this matter.” Aisha said that then the Prophet ﷺ called Barirah and asked, “Barirah! Have you seen anything that made you suspicious?” She replied, “No, O Prophet! By the One Who sent you with the truth, I have found nothing in her that could be blamed. One thing is that she is a young girl; she sometimes falls asleep while kneading dough, and in the meantime, a goat or bird might come and eat the dough.” Then the Prophet ﷺ stood up and on that day complained about Abdullah bin Ubayy. He stood on the pulpit and said:
“O Muslims! Who will help me against a person whose harm has now reached my household? By Allah, I know nothing about my wife except that she is chaste and pure, and about the man they mention, I know nothing but good. Whenever he came to my house, he came with me.” Then Sa’d bin Mu’adh Al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) stood and said, “O Messenger of Allah! I will help you, and if that man belongs to the tribe of Aws, I will cut off his neck, and if he is from our brothers, the Khazraj, command us; we will not hesitate in obedience.” The narrator said that then Sa’d bin ‘Ubada (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up; he was the chief of the Khazraj tribe. He was a righteous man but that day his tribal pride prevailed (Abdullah bin Ubayy was from his tribe). He said to Sa’d bin Mu’adh, “By Allah! You lie; you cannot kill him; you do not have the power to kill him.” Then Asid bin Hudayr (may Allah be pleased with him) stood; he was Sa’d bin Mu’adh’s cousin. He said to Sa’d bin ‘Ubada, “By Allah! You lie; we will surely kill him. Have you become a hypocrite, siding with hypocrites?” At that moment, both tribes, Aws and Khazraj, stood up and the matter almost led to fighting among themselves. The Prophet ﷺ was standing on the pulpit trying to silence them. Eventually, everyone became quiet, and the Prophet ﷺ also remained silent. Aisha said that she kept crying that day; her tears did not stop, nor did sleep come.
Lady Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said that when the next morning came, her parents were still with her. Two nights and one day had passed with her continuously crying. During this time, she neither slept nor did her tears stop. Her parents feared that her heart might burst from crying. They said that while they were sitting with her and she was crying, a woman from the Ansar tribe asked permission to enter. Aisha allowed her in; she sat with her and began crying. They were in this state when the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came in and sat down. She said that since the slander was cast upon her, he had not sat with her. He had waited a month in this matter, and no revelation had come to him. She said that after sitting, the Prophet ﷺ delivered a sermon and then said:
“To proceed! O Aisha! I have heard such news about you. If you are guilty, then Allah will expose your guilt Himself. But if you have committed a sin by mistake, then seek forgiveness from Allah and repent to Him, for when a servant admits his sin and repents to Allah, Allah accepts his repentance.” Aisha said that when the Prophet ﷺ finished speaking, her tears suddenly dried up as if not a single drop remained. She said to her father (Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him), “Please respond to the Prophet ﷺ on my behalf.” He said, “By Allah! I do not know what to say to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ about this.” Then she said to her mother to respond on her behalf. She also said, “By Allah! I do not know what to say.” Aisha said that then she herself spoke. She was a young girl and had not read much Quran. She said, “By Allah! I know that the rumors you have heard have settled in your hearts and you have started to believe them. Now if I say I am innocent of these accusations, and Allah knows I truly am, you will not believe me. But if I admit to the slander, though Allah knows I am completely innocent, you will believe me. By Allah! I have no example for you except the statement of Yusuf’s father who said, ‘So patience is most fitting. And Allah is the one sought for help concerning that which you describe.'” She said that then she turned away and lay on her bed. She was fully convinced that she was innocent and that Allah would surely declare her innocence. But by Allah! She never imagined that Allah would reveal such a verse about her that would be recited. She considered herself too insignificant for Allah to reveal a Quranic verse about her. However, she expected that the Prophet ﷺ would see a dream about her and Allah would clear her through it.
She said that by Allah! The Prophet ﷺ was still sitting in that gathering; none of the family had left when the revelation began to descend upon him. The same state came over him as when revelation descended—he became drenched in sweat, and beads of sweat covered his pure body, even though it was cold weather. This state came upon him due to the intensity of the revelation. She said that when the Prophet ﷺ’s condition ended, he was smiling, and the first words from his blessed tongue were:
“Aisha! Allah has declared you innocent.” Her mother said, “Stand up before the Prophet ﷺ to thank him.” She said, “By Allah! I will never stand before him and praise anyone but Allah.” The verse revealed was: “Indeed, those who came with the slander are a small group among you…” continuing for ten complete verses. When Allah revealed these verses declaring her innocence, Abu Bakr Siddiq (may Allah be pleased with him), who used to bear the expenses of Musṭaḥ bin Asāsa due to kinship and his neediness, said about him, “By Allah! I will never spend anything on Musṭaḥ again. He has cast such slanders on Aisha.” Then Allah revealed this verse:
“And those who have wealth and abundance among you swear not to give [aid] to their relatives and the needy and the emigrants for the cause of Allah, and let them pardon and overlook. Would you not like that Allah should forgive you? And Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” Abu Bakr said, “Yes, by Allah! That is exactly what I desire—that Allah forgive me.” So he resumed giving Musṭaḥ all the expenses he used to give before and said, “By Allah! I will never stop supporting him.” Aisha said that the Prophet ﷺ also asked Umm al-Mu’minin Zainab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her) about her matter. He asked, “Zainab! Have you ever seen anything suspicious?” She replied, “O Messenger of Allah! May my ears and eyes be protected by my Lord; I have seen nothing but good in her.” Aisha said that among the pure wives (may Allah be pleased with them), she was the only one who wanted to be above her, but Allah protected her from slander due to her piety. However, her sister Hamna fought for her and was also killed along with those who spread slander.”
Hadith 7 :

Ibn Khuzaymah has declared it authentic.
“And it is narrated from Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) that we were in the state of Ihram with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), and caravans would pass in front of us. Al-Muhaddith Al-Bani has classified it as Hasan.
And Hafzan Hakim narrates from his father, who narrates from his grandfather, that he said: I asked, O Messenger of Allah, from whom should we conceal our private parts and for whom should we leave them uncovered? The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: Conceal your private parts from everyone except your wife and your slave woman. (The narrator says) I then asked, O Messenger of Allah, if a man is with another man, what should he do? He said: As much as possible, try to ensure that no one sees it. (The narrator says) I then asked, O Messenger of Allah, if one of us is alone, can he expose his private parts? He said: Allah is more deserving that you show modesty before Him.

● The Private Parts of a Man

And it is narrated from Hazrat Hafsa bint Umar (may Allah be pleased with her) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sitting in his house with his thighs uncovered. Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) came and asked for permission to enter. The Prophet (peace be upon him) granted permission and remained in that state. Then Hazrat Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and also asked for permission to enter, and the Prophet granted it, still remaining in the same state. Then Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came and asked for permission to enter, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) granted it, still remaining as he was. Then some other companions (may Allah be pleased with them) came, and he remained in the same condition. But when Hazrat Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) came and asked for permission, the Prophet covered his thighs and then allowed him to enter. After conversing for a while, the companions left, and I asked the reason for this. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me: “Should I not feel modest before the one before whom even the angels feel modest?”

❀ Allah Almighty has said:
“And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not to display their adornment except that which [necessarily] appears thereof and to draw their veils over their bosoms and not to reveal their adornment except to their husbands or their fathers or their husbands’ fathers or their sons or their husbands’ sons (stepsons) or their brothers or their nephews or their uncles or their (Muslim) women or those whom their right hands possess (slaves) or male attendants who lack vigor or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. Hadith 16:

And Abu Uthman, may Allah have mercy on him, narrates that we were in Azerbaijan when Hazrat Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, wrote to us: O Utbah bin Farqad! The situation is that the wealth you possess is neither the result of your own hard work nor the earnings of your father, nor the fruit of your mother’s labor. Therefore, let the Muslims be satisfied with it in their homes as you are satisfied in your own home, and protect yourself from luxury, the clothing and appearance of the polytheists, and silk garments, because the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade silk clothing, except in small amounts. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, showed this by raising two fingers before us, the middle finger and the index finger together. Asim said, this letter is present, and Zuhair raised both his fingers.

Muawiyah said to Miqdad: Do you know that Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) has passed away? Then a man said to him: Do you consider this a calamity? He said: Why would I not consider his death a calamity when the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had held him in his lap and said: This (Hasan) is from me and Husayn is from Ali! The Asadi man said: It was a burning coal which Allah Almighty extinguished. Miqdad said: But (I do not say what this Asadi said) I will anger you today and tell you something you will dislike. Then he said:
O Muawiyah! If I speak the truth, confirm it, and if I speak falsely, refute it. Muawiyah said: I will do so. Miqdad said: I swear by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade wearing gold? He said: Yes. Miqdad then said: I swear by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade wearing silk? He said: Yes. Hazrat Miqdad said: I swear by Allah, do you know that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade wearing the skins of wild animals and riding on them? He said: Yes. Miqdad said: By Allah! I have seen all this in your house, O Muawiyah! Upon this, Muawiyah said: O Miqdad! I knew that I would never be able to escape you. Khalid bin Ma’dan narrated that then Muawiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered such a reward for Miqdad which was not given to his other two companions and assigned a share of two hundred to his son. Thus, Hazrat Miqdad (may Allah be pleased with him) distributed it among his companions. But the Asadi man did not give anything to anyone from what he received. When Muawiyah heard this, he said: Miqdad is a generous man with an open hand, and the Asadi is one who guards his wealth well.”

“All praise is due to Allah who clothed me with this and granted it to me without any personal strength or power of my own.” Then his previous sins will be forgiven.
Hadith 40:
And it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri (RA) that when the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) wore a new garment, he would mention its name and recite this supplication:
“O Allah! All praise is for You alone. You have clothed me with this. I ask You for its goodness and the goodness for which it was made, and I seek refuge in You from its evil and the evil for which it was made.” Abu Nadhrah said: Among the companions of the Prophet (PBUH), when anyone wore a new cloth, this prayer was recited for him:
“O Generous Allah, make it old (through use) in a good way, and may Allah grant more blessings after it.”
