This article presents a comprehensive discussion of all those beneficial and proven righteous deeds about which the Quran and Sunnah have provided clear guidance that they lead to the forgiveness of sins and the removal of faults. It is a fundamental necessity for every Muslim to seek forgiveness from their Lord and to adopt such deeds that remove their slips, reform them, and earn the pleasure of Allah Almighty. The present writing offers a detailed explanation of these deeds, by adopting which a servant can, by the grace and mercy of Allah, become free from sins and embark on the path of righteousness.

Faith and Righteous Deeds

The most fundamental and greatest means of forgiveness of sins is true faith along with righteous deeds.

Quranic Verse

Reference: Al-Ankabut 29:7

Translation:
“And those who believe and do righteous deeds, We will surely remove from them their misdeeds and will reward them according to the best of what they used to do.”

Similarly, in another place it is stated:

Quranic Verse

Reference: Muhammad 47: 2

Translation:
“And those who believe and do righteous deeds and believe in what has been sent down upon Muhammad ﷺ and it is the truth from their Lord – He will remove from them their misdeeds and amend their condition.”

From these verses, it is understood that firm faith, correct belief, and righteous deeds are the greatest reasons for the removal of a servant’s sins.

Adopting Faith and Piety

A great means to avoid sins and attain forgiveness is piety.

Quranic Verse

Reference: Al-Ma’idah 5: 65

Translation:
“If the People of the Scripture had believed and feared Allah, We would have certainly removed from them their misdeeds and admitted them to gardens of pleasure.”

Further He said:

Reference: Al-Anfal 8: 29

Translation:
“O you who have believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion and will remove from you your misdeeds and forgive you.”

And He said:

Reference: Az-Zumar 39: 35

Translation:
“So that Allah may forgive their worst deeds and reward them for their best deeds.”

Allah Almighty has clearly stated:

Reference: An-Nisa 4:31

Translation:
“If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins.”

Sincere Repentance and Seeking Forgiveness

The greatest gateway to the forgiveness of sins is pure repentance.

Quranic Verse

Reference: At-Tahrim 66:8

Translation:
“O you who have believed, repent to Allah with sincere repentance. Perhaps your Lord will remove from you your misdeeds.”

Furthermore, He said:

Reference: Al-Furqan 25:70

Translation:
“Except for those who repent, believe, and do righteous work. For them Allah will replace their evil deeds with good. And ever is Allah Forgiving and Merciful.”

Similarly:

Reference: An-Naml 27:11

Translation:
“But indeed, he who repents and does righteousness does indeed turn to Allah with [accepted] repentance.”

Prophetic Traditions (Multiple Translations of Hadith Qudsi)

The Holy Prophet ﷺ conveyed Allah’s command:

Translation: “O son of Adam! As long as you call upon Me and hope in Me, I will forgive you.”

The Companions said: Certainly, O Messenger of Allah!
You ﷺ said:

((إِسْبَاغُ الْوُضُوْءِ عَلَی الْمَکَارِهِ)) meaning “to perform ablution fully and completely at the time of difficulty”
((وَکَثْرَةُ الْخُطَا إِلَی الْمَسَاجِدِ)) “to walk more steps towards the mosques”
((وَانْتِظَارُ الصَّلَاةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلَاةِ)) “to wait for the next prayer after one prayer”
Then He said: ((فَذَلِکُمُ الرِّبَاطُ))

“This is the real Jihad.”

Similarly, there is a hadith:

Supplication

Translation:
“Whoever sends blessings upon me once, Allah sends ten mercies upon him, erases ten of his sins, and raises him ten degrees.”

Sitting in the Assembly of the People of Remembrance

The reward of this great act mentioned in the second sermon is also the forgiveness of sins, because gatherings of remembrance are very beloved to Allah Almighty.

Hadith

Reference: Sahih al-Bukhari: 6408, Sahih Muslim: 2689

Translation (Summary of the Hadith):
“Some of Allah’s angels roam the earth searching for gatherings of remembrance. When they find such a gathering, they gather there, covering them with their wings up to the sky, then they present before Allah saying that these people are glorifying, praising, and exalting You, asking for Paradise, and seeking refuge from Hellfire.
Allah says: I bear witness that I have forgiven them.
And He said that whoever merely sat on the path, I have also forgiven him.”

Conclusion

Finally, we present very important points as a conclusion:

1. The doors of forgiveness are always open
Allah Almighty has mentioned numerous deeds in the Holy Quran and the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ has narrated authentic hadiths through which a servant’s sins are forgiven. This is evidence that Allah Almighty wants to forgive us, wants to guide us, we just need to turn towards Him.

2. It is extremely necessary to avoid major sins
If a person avoids major sins, then their minor sins are automatically erased. Prayers, fasting, charity, tasbih, handshakes — all these erase their sins and keep purifying them.

3. True repentance turns sins into good deeds
Whoever sincerely repents with faith, remorse, and determination to abandon sin, Allah Almighty erases their sins and transforms them into good deeds. This is a great mercy of Allah.

4. Even small deeds hold great reward with Allah
Smiling and greeting, shaking hands, reciting Durood once, saying SubhanAllah once — these are not trivial acts but means to erase a person’s sins.

5. Connect yourself with gatherings of righteousness
Gatherings of remembrance are pure circles in which Allah Almighty sends down His mercy, angels gather, and forgiveness is declared for the participants.

6. Always have hope in Allah
According to a Hadith Qudsi:
“If your sins reach up to the sky and you sincerely repent, Allah will forgive you.”
This hope, this turning back, is the true worship.

In conclusion, the prayer is:
