It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the Noble Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
لو أن أحدكم إذا أراد أن يأتي أهله قال: باسم الله، اللهم جنبنا الشيطان، وجنب الشيطان ما رزقتنا؛ فإنه إن يقدر بينهما ولد فى ذلك لم يضره الشيطان أبدا
“If any of you intends to approach his wife, let him say: In the name of Allah, O Allah! Keep Satan away from us and keep Satan away from what You grant us from offspring (through this sperm). If offspring is destined from this sperm, then Satan will not be able to harm it.”
From this hadith, it is understood that Satan is present at the time of the union of husband and wife, and that is why the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم taught this supplication to seek protection from him.
