❖ Question:
What is the ruling on reciting Takbīrāt after the obligatory prayers from the beginning of Dhū al-Ḥijjah till the end of Ayyām al-Tashrīq?
❖ Answer:
الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد!
✿ Takbīrāt After Ṣalāh During Ayyām al-Tashrīq
The regular practice of reciting Takbīrāt after the prayers during the days of Tashrīq is an authentic and established Sunnah, as supported by the following narration:
✿ Practice of the Companions:
◈ In Muṣannaf Ibn Abī Shaybah (Vol. 2, Pg. 165, Ḥadīth 5630), there is a narration with a sound chain (ḥasan sanad) from Sayyidunā ʿAlī (رضي الله عنه):
“أنه كان يكبر بعد صلاة الفجر يوم عرفة إلى صلاة العصر من آخر أيام التشريق ويكبر بعد العصر“
Translation:
Sayyidunā ʿAlī (رضي الله عنه) would recite the Takbīrāt after Fajr on the Day of ʿArafah (9 Dhū al-Ḥijjah) until ʿAṣr on the last day of Tashrīq (13 Dhū al-Ḥijjah), and he would also recite it after ʿAṣr.
✿ Summary of the 5 Important Rulings:
① Beginning Time:
The Takbīrāt after obligatory prayers begin after Fajr on 9 Dhū al-Ḥijjah (Day of ʿArafah).
② Ending Time:
They continue until after ʿAṣr on 13 Dhū al-Ḥijjah (the final day of Ayyām al-Tashrīq).
③ After Each Obligatory Prayer:
They are to be recited after every farḍ prayer, whether performed individually or in congregation.
④ Established by Companions:
This practice is established from the Ṣaḥābah, particularly from Sayyidunā ʿAlī (رضي الله عنه), as authentically reported.
⑤ 1st to 8th Dhū al-Ḥijjah:
Reciting Takbīrāt from 1st Dhū al-Ḥijjah to 8th Dhū al-Ḥijjah is debatable, and no clear evidence supports obligatory practice during these days after prayer.
