🧭 The Real Issue Behind Women’s Exploitation: A Clash of Values

❖ The Clash of Social Values and Western Exploitation of Women

In today’s world, it has become necessary to discuss the exploitation of women in the West, particularly in response to those who promote Western culture—especially the dating culture—as a model against Islamic social values.

These proponents argue that a woman’s clothing is not the issue, but rather the mentality of men.
However, the core of the issue is not statistical, but rather a disagreement in values.

❖ Types of Disagreements and Their Scope

According to scholars of logic, there are various types of disagreements. Two significant types are:

① Disagreement in Belief (حقیقی اختلاف)

This disagreement revolves around what has actually occurred.
For example:

  • Zaid claims that Shoaib is a professor at Quaid-e-Azam University, while Rashid says he is a lecturer.
  • Michael says Hitler killed millions of Jews, while Clark denies it.

Such disagreements can be resolved through factual verification, such as presenting certified documents to confirm whether Shoaib is a professor or not.

② Disagreement in Attitude (اقدار کا اختلاف)

This type of disagreement is not about what happened, but about the moral evaluation of what happened.

For example:

  • One person may view something as good and necessary, while another sees it as evil or insignificant.

Such disagreements cannot be resolved through facts alone, because the fundamental values of both individuals differ.

❖ The Value Conflict Between Religious Individuals and Liberals

The ongoing debate between religious individuals and liberals is less a factual disagreement and more a clash of values—and this cannot be resolved merely by presenting statistics.

For example:
✔ Even if one presents data on sexual crimes against women in the West, or the birth rates among unmarried couples, it makes little impact on those who view such issues through a different value system.
✔ However, if a man were to merely look at a woman inappropriately, they would quickly legislate anti-harassment laws—because personal freedom is their highest value, while concepts such as modesty and chastity hold no significance.

❖ The Core of the Disagreement: Foundation of Values

This disagreement stems from the epistemology that underlies the construction of values:

✔ In the West, personal liberty is regarded as the foundational value.
✔ In Islam, modesty, chastity, and purity are given primary importance.

Hence, the problem cannot be resolved by simply providing more factual evidence.
Rather, there must be a deep understanding of the underlying foundations of values and the knowledge system upon which they are built.

❖ Conclusion

In Islamic society, both men and women are bound by the obligation of modesty and moral boundaries, whereas in the West, freedom is the most cherished ideal.

Until the foundational principles of both ideologies are acknowledged and understood, this value-based conflict cannot be resolved.
