The Virtue of Visiting the Sick
① Sayyiduna Thawban رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
عائد المريض فى خرفة الجنة
“The one who visits the sick is in the path (garden) of Paradise.”
And in another narration:
من عاد مريضا لم يزل فى خرفة الجنة
“The person who visits the sick is on the path to Paradise.”
② Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من عاد مريضا أو زار أخا له فى الله ناداه مناد: أن طبت وطاب ممشاك وتبوأت من الجنة منزلا
“Whoever visits a sick person or goes to meet his religious brother, a caller calls out to him: You have become prosperous, your walking is blessed, and you have built a house (station) in Paradise.”
③ Sayyiduna Ali ibn Abi Talib رضي الله عنه narrates, whoever visits a sick person in the evening, seventy thousand angels are sent with him who continue to ask for forgiveness for him until morning, and a garden in Paradise is prepared for him. And whoever visits him in the morning, seventy thousand angels are also sent with him who continue to ask for forgiveness for him until evening, and a garden in Paradise is prepared for him.
Prohibition of Stealing the Shroud
① Muhammad bin Abdur Rahman says that he heard his mother, Umrah bint Abdullah, may Allah have mercy on her, say:
لعن رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم نباش القبور
“The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, cursed the one who steals the shroud. That is, the one who digs up the grave and steals the shroud.”
The Reward of Accompanying the Funeral
① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah, may Allah be pleased with him, narrates from the Noble Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, who said:
من اتبع جنازة مسلم إيمانا واحتسابا وكان معها حتى يصلى عليها ويفرغ من دفنها فإنه يرجع من الأجر بقيراطين كل قيراط مثل أحد ومن صلى عليها ثم رجع قبل أن تدفن فإنه يرجع بقيراط
“Whoever accompanies a Muslim funeral with faith and seeking reward, and stays until the prayer is performed and the burial is completed, will return with two qirats of reward, and each qirat is like a mountain. And whoever prays the funeral prayer and returns before the burial will return with one qirat of reward.”
