Sūraton aur Āyāt ke Faḍā’il by Shaykh Ghulām Muṣṭafā Ẓahīr Amn Pūrī
Virtue of Sūrah al-Mulk in the Light of Authentic Aḥādīth
❶ Report from Sayyidunā Abū Hurayrah
📚 Musnad Imām Aḥmad: 2/299/32; Sunan Abī Dāwūd: 1400; Sunan al-Tirmidhī: 2891; Sunan Ibn Mājah: 3788 — Its chain is ḥasan.
Translation:
There is a sūrah in the Qur’an consisting of thirty verses which interceded for a man until he was forgiven.
That sūrah is Sūrah Tabārak alladhī bi-yadihi al-Mulk (Sūrah al-Mulk).
Imām al-Tirmidhī رحمه الله graded it ḥasan,
Imām Ibn Ḥibbān رحمه الله (Hadith Nos. 787, 788) and Imām al-Ḥākim رحمه الله (2/497–498) declared it ṣaḥīḥ al-isnād,
and Ḥāfiẓ al-Dhahabī رحمه الله agreed with them.
❷ Report in Ṣaḥīḥ Ibn Ḥibbān (Hadith No. 787) — Chain ḥasan
Translation:
This sūrah continues to seek forgiveness for its reciter until he is forgiven.
❸ Statement of Sayyidunā ʿAbdullāh bin Masʿūd
Arabic Text:
149 — Its chain is ḥasan.
Translation:
Sūrah Tabārak is the protector.
By Allah’s permission, it protects from the punishment of the grave.
When a person who used to recite it is subjected to punishment, it comes to his head and says: “You have no way from this direction, for he used to recite Sūrah al-Mulk.”
If it comes from his feet, they say: “You have no way from this direction, for he used to stand upon us reciting Sūrah al-Mulk.”
Thus, by Allah’s command, this sūrah will shield him from the punishment of the grave.
In the Torah it is also called Sūrah al-Mulk.
Whoever recites it at night gains abundant goodness and blessings.
❹ Statement of Sayyidunā ʿAbdullāh bin Masʿūd
📚 Al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr of al-Ṭabarānī: 8652 — Its chain is ḥasan.
Translation:
When a person habitually recites Sūrah al-Mulk every night and is later placed in his grave, punishment will come from his feet, but they will say:
“You have no way from this direction,” thus protecting him from torment.
Summary of Virtues:

② It continues to seek forgiveness for the believer until Allah forgives him.
