❖ Question:

What is the ruling on making the intention (niyyah) for Salah verbally?

❖ Answer:

الحمد لله، والصلاة والسلام علىٰ رسول الله، أما بعد!

✔ Legal Status of Verbal Intention for Salah:

Articulating the intention (niyyah) verbally—i.e., expressing it in spoken words before beginning the Salah—is:

– Not found in the Noble Qur’an,
– Not found in authentic Ahadith,
– Not found in the sayings of the Companions (رضي الله عنهم),
– Nor in the reports from the Tabi‘in (رحمهم الله).

❗ Therefore, reciting the intention aloud:

◈ Is not established in the Shari‘ah
◈ Is an incorrect practice
◈ Should be avoided
