Authored by: Fatwa Committee of Saudi Arabia

Ruling:

It is permissible to sell gold and silver watches and rings to both men and women. However, men are not allowed to wear gold, gold-plated items, or gold rings. Similarly, silver watches are only permissible for women. However, silver rings are permissible for both men and women.

Gold and Silver Pens:

Gold and silver pens are not permissible for men or women. These are not considered jewelry but are akin to gold and silver utensils, which are prohibited for everyone. The prohibition is based on the following Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ):

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 5426; Sahih Muslim, Vol. 5, Hadith No. 2067)
Furthermore, the Prophet (ﷺ) said:

"Whoever drinks from a gold or silver vessel is pouring the fire of Hell into their stomach."

(Sahih al-Bukhari, Hadith No. 5634; Sahih Muslim, Vol. 1, Hadith No. 2065)

Included Items:

The prohibition extends to utensils such as spoons, teacups, coffee cups, and similar items.
