➍ The name Hussain was given by the Prophet (SAW) himself

Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says that I had named my elder son Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) as Hamza, and the name of Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) was given after my uncle’s name, Ja’far. The Prophet (peace be upon him and his family) gave both of them the names Hasan and Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them).

عن علی رضی الله عنه قال : لما ولد حسن سماه حمزة، فلما ولد حسين سماه بإسم عمه جعفر. قال : فدعاني رسول اللہ ﷺ و قال : إني اُمرت أن أغير إسم هٰذين. فقلت : ألله و رسوله أعلم، فسماهما حسنا و حسيناً.

Translation
“Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) states that when Hasan was born, he named him Hamza, and when Husayn was born, he named him Ja’far after his uncle. (Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says) The Noble Prophet ﷺ called me and said: I have been commanded to change their names. (Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says) I replied: Allah and His Messenger know best. Then you ﷺ named them Hasan and Husayn.”

عن سلمان رضي الله عنه قال : قال النبي ﷺ : سميتهما يعني الحسن والحسين باسم ابني هارون شبرا و شبيرا.

Translation
It is narrated from Hazrat Salman Farsi (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “I have named these two, Hasan and Husayn, after the sons of Harun (peace be upon him), Shabr and Shabir.”

عن علی بن ابی طالب رضی الله عنه قال : لما ولدت فاطمة الحسن جاء النبی صلی الله عليه وآله وسلم فقال : أروني ابني ما سميتموه؟ قال : قلت : سميته حربا فقال : بل هو حسن فلما ولدت الحسين جاء رسول اللہ ﷺ فقال : أروني ابني ما سميتموه؟ قال : قلت : سميته حربا قال : بل هو حسين ثم لما ولدت الثالث جاء رسول اللہ ﷺ قال : أروني ابني ما سميتموه؟ قلت : سميته حربا. قال : بل هو محسن. ثم قال : إنما سميتهم بإسم ولد هارون شبر و شبير و مشبر۔

Translation
Hazrat Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that when Hasan was born to Fatimah, the Holy Prophet ﷺ came and said: Show me my son, what name have you given him? I said: I have named him Harb. The Holy Prophet ﷺ said: No, rather he is Hasan. Then when Husayn was born, the Holy Prophet ﷺ came and said: Show me my son, what name have you given him? I said: I have named him Harb. He ﷺ said: No, rather he is Husayn. Then when the third son was born, the Holy Prophet ﷺ came and said: Show me my son, what name have you given him? I said: I have named him Harb. He ﷺ said: No, rather his name is Muhsin. Then he said: I have named them after the sons of Harun (peace be upon him), Shabr, Shabir, and Mashbar.

➎ The Prophet ﷺ gave the Adhan at the birth of Husayn

عن ابي رافع رضي الله عنه قال : رايت رسول اللہ ﷺ اذن في اذن الحسين حين ولدته فاطمة. هذا حديث صحيح الاسناد ولم يخرجاه.

Translation
Narrated Abu Rafi’ رضي الله عنه that I saw the Prophet ﷺ give the Adhan in the ear of Husayn at the time of his birth to Fatimah.
Hakim has declared the chain of this narration authentic, while Bukhari and Muslim did not include it in their collections.

➏ The ‘Aqiqah of both grandsons

عن علي رضي الله عنه أن رسول ﷺ عق عن الحسن و الحسين.

’’It is narrated from Hazrat Ali رضي الله عنه that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ performed Aqiqah on behalf of the two noble Hasan and Husayn.’’

Translation
’’Umm al-Mu’minin Hazrat Aisha Siddiqah narrates that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ slaughtered two goats each as Aqiqah on the seventh day after the birth of Hasan and Husayn on their behalf.’’
