The Greatness of Istighfar and the Importance of Allah Almighty
(A Comprehensive Explanation in the Light of Quran, Hadith, and Scholars)
🌿 Definition of Istighfar:
“Istighfar” means: seeking forgiveness from Allah Almighty for one’s sins, and acknowledging that we have erred, and only Allah can forgive us.
🌟 The Greatness of Istighfar in the Light of the Quran:
➊ Allah Almighty is the Forgiver of sins:
“And who is there that can forgive sins except Allah?”
➋ Through Istighfar, sustenance, offspring, and rain are granted:
“Noah (peace be upon him) said: Ask forgiveness from your Lord; indeed, He is ever Forgiving. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and give you increase in wealth and children.”
➌ Istighfar protects from punishment:
“And Allah will not punish them while you are among them, and Allah will not punish them while they seek forgiveness.”
🌷 The Virtue of Istighfar from Ahadith:
➊ The Prophet ﷺ frequently seeking forgiveness:
“I seek forgiveness from Allah more than seventy times a day.”
➋ Means of forgiveness of sins:
“Whoever makes seeking forgiveness obligatory upon himself, Allah will relieve him from every sorrow, provide a way out of every difficulty, and grant sustenance from sources he never imagined.”
📜 Sayings of Scholars:
➊ Imam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him):
“Repentance from sins and seeking forgiveness is the foundation of all good deeds.”
➋ Imam Hasan al-Basri (may Allah have mercy on him):
“Seeking forgiveness is like magic that removes every calamity.”
