❖ Adhan and Iqamah: Glorious Acts of Worship

✔ The Mu’adhin’s Voice Will Bear Witness on the Day of Judgement

Sayyiduna Abu Sa‘id Al-Khudri رضي الله عنه narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

“When you are among sheep or in rural areas, give the Adhan for prayer and raise your voice, for whatever hears the Mu’adhin—whether a jinn, human, or any other creature—will testify on his behalf on the Day of Judgement.”
(Bukhari, Al-Adhan, Chapter: Raising the Voice with the Call, Hadith 609)

✔ Equal Reward to the Mu’adhin as the One Who Prays

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The Mu’adhin will receive a reward equal to everyone who prays after hearing the Adhan.”
(Al-Nasa’i, Al-Adhan, Chapter: Raising the Voice in Adhan, Hadith 646 – graded Jayyid by Al-Mundhiri)

✔ The Mu’adhin gets the reward of all those who pray due to his call.
✔ He is the one who invites others to this act of worship.

✔ Mu’adhins Will Be Distinguished on the Day of Judgement

Sayyiduna Mu‘awiyah رضي الله عنه narrated:

“I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say:
The necks of the Mu’adhins will be long on the Day of Judgement.”
(Muslim, Al-Salah, Chapter: The Virtue of Adhan and the Retreat of Shaytan, Hadith 873)

✔ Meaning: They will be honored, prominent, and distinguished due to their service in proclaiming Allah’s greatness.

✔ Eagerness for Adhan and the First Row

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“If people knew the reward of giving the Adhan and being in the first row, they would draw lots to secure those positions.”
(Bukhari, Al-Adhan, Chapter: Drawing Lots for the Adhan, Hadith 615)

✔ The immense reward would drive people to compete and draw lots to attain these roles.

✔ The Status of the Mu’adhin on the Day of Jumu‘ah

Sayyiduna Abu Musa Al-Ash‘ari رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“On the Day of Judgement, Allah will manifest Friday as a radiant star.
Those who observed it (by praying Jumu‘ah) will shine like a bride.
They will walk in its light, with faces white like snow and smelling of musk, rejoicing on the mountains of camphor.
Jinn and humans will gaze at them but they won’t look back due to their delight—until they enter Paradise.
No one will accompany them except those who gave the Adhan solely for reward.”
(Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah by Al-Albani, Hadith 602)

✔ A special rank is reserved for sincere Mu’adhins on the Day of Judgement.

✔ Gates of Heaven Open During the Adhan

Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“When the call to prayer is made, the gates of the heavens are opened, and du‘a is accepted.”
(Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah by Al-Albani, Hadith 1413)

✔ Jannah Becomes Obligatory for the One Who Gives Adhan for 12 Years

Sayyiduna Abdullah ibn ‘Umar رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever gives Adhan for twelve years, Paradise becomes obligatory for him.
Sixty good deeds are written for each Adhan, and thirty for each Iqamah.”
(Silsilat al-Ahadith al-Sahihah by Al-Albani, Hadith 24)

✔ Consistent service in calling to prayer guarantees eternal reward.

✔ Shaytan Flees from the Sound of the Adhan

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“When the Adhan is called for prayer, Shaytan flees, turning his back.
Once it ends, he returns and whispers to the worshiper, reminding him of things he had forgotten, until the person doesn’t realize how much he prayed.”
(Bukhari, Al-Adhan, Chapter: The Virtue of the Adhan, Hadith 608; Muslim: 389)

✔ Adhan is a spiritual repellent against Shaytan’s influence.

✔ Allah Forgives the Shepherd Who Calls Adhan on a Mountain Top

Sayyiduna ‘Uqbah ibn ‘Amir رضي الله عنه narrated that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“Your Lord marvels at a shepherd on a mountain top who gives the Adhan and prays.
Allah says:
Look at My servant, giving Adhan and Iqamah for prayer and fearing Me.
I have forgiven him and granted him Paradise.
”
(Abu Dawud, Salat al-Safar, Chapter: Adhan During Travel, Hadith 1196 – authenticated by Ibn Hibban)

✔ Even in isolation, Adhan and prayer are acts dearly loved by Allah.
