Charging wages for shaving the beard
Shaving the beard and trimming it is forbidden and an open evil; it is neither permissible for a Muslim to do so nor to assist in this matter. Therefore, the wages and earnings from it are unlawful earnings. Whoever does this should repent from it and resolve not to do it again.
If he knows the Shariah ruling regarding its prohibition, then he should give the earnings he made from this work as charity. If he was unaware of the Shariah ruling about its prohibition, then what has happened has happened, and there is no blame on him, but he should be cautious in the future. Just as Allah Almighty says about usurers:
«فَمَن جَاءَهُ مَوْعِظَةٌ مِّن رَّبِّهِ فَانتَهَىٰ فَلَهُ مَا سَلَفَ وَأَمْرُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِ ۖ وَمَنْ عَادَ فَأُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ»
“Then if someone receives admonition from their Lord and refrains, let what is past be theirs; and their affair rests with Allah. But whoever returns to [dealing in usury]—those are the companions of the Fire; they will abide eternally therein.”
In Sahihayn, it is narrated from Hazrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
“Trim the mustaches, leave the beard, and oppose the polytheists.”
And in Sahih Muslim, it is narrated from Hazrat Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: “Cut the mustaches, let the beard grow, and oppose the Magians.”
Therefore, it is obligatory upon every Muslim to obey Allah’s command regarding growing the beard and trimming the mustaches, and one should not be deceived by the fact that the majority of people oppose this Sunnah and openly disobey Allah.
