The Frequently Recited Supplication on the Holy Tongue of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ
Immediately after mentioning Hajj in Surah Al-Baqarah, Allah Almighty mentions two major categories of His servants: The first category is those whose sole aim is worldly benefit; regarding them it is stated that such people will have no share in the success of the Hereafter unless they repent and Allah forgives them.
The second category is those whose focus is not only on this world but also on the Hereafter, and their entire life is expressed by this supplicatory phrase:
﴿رَبَّنَا آتِنَا فِي الدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةً وَفِي الْآخِرَةِ حَسَنَةً وَقِنَا عَذَابَ النَّارِ﴾
“O our Lord! Grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and save us from the punishment of the Hellfire.”
Benefit:
There is great virtue mentioned in the hadiths regarding this supplication. It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to frequently make this supplication.
It is narrated in Abu Dawood and others that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to make this supplication between the Yemeni Corner and the Black Stone.
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) visited a patient who had become withered like a thorn, and he advised him to make this supplication. He did so, and his illness was cured.
