1 — Limit of Mourning for a Woman

Hadith — Zaynab bint Jahsh (رضي الله عنها):
When her brother passed away, she applied perfume after three days and said:
“I had no need for perfume, but I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: It is not permissible for a woman who believes in Allah and the Last Day to mourn for anyone more than three days, except for her husband — for whom she mourns four months and ten days.”
(Bukhari 1281, Muslim 1486)

2 — Umm ʿAtiyyah’s Practice

When her son died, Umm ʿAtiyyah (رضي الله عنها) applied saffron after three days and said:
“It is forbidden for us to mourn for anyone other than a husband for more than three days.”
(Bukhari 1229)

3 — Weeping for the Deceased

Hadith:
Tears flowing from the eyes upon seeing the deceased are permissible.
When Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah became unconscious, the Prophet ﷺ wept, and so did the companions.

④ Wailing over the dead.
If the wailing woman does not repent before she dies, she will be raised on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of tar and a shirt of scabs.”
(Muslim 934)
