Ruling on Giving the Adhān via Tape Recorder

Question:
Is it valid to give the adhān through a tape recorder?
Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
Giving the adhān through a tape recorder is not valid, because:
◈ Adhān is an act of worship, and every act of worship requires intention (niyyah).
◈ A tape recorder is a mechanical device that has no concept of intention; therefore, an adhān played from it does not carry the status of a Sharʿī adhān.
