Taking Papers with Allah’s Name into the Bathroom: Complete Explanation

What is the ruling on taking papers into the bathroom that contain the name of Allah? Is it permissible?
❖ Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-s-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!
It is permissible to take such papers into the bathroom, provided that:
✿ They are kept inside a pocket.
✿ They are not visible from the outside.
✿ They are covered and concealed, so that no disrespect occurs.
Reason for This Ruling
- Many Muslims have names that include the name of Allah, such as:
✿ ʿAbdullāh
✿ ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz
and so on. - These names are often written on documents and kept in pockets.
- Therefore, taking them into the bathroom is permissible if they are covered and not exposed.
