Question

What is the ruling on speaking between the Iqāmah and Takbīrat al-Taḥrīmah?

Answer

Speaking between the Iqāmah and Takbīrat al-Taḥrīmah is permissible. There is no prohibition, rather proofs are found in the aḥādīth.

Evidence from Aḥādīth

❀ Sayyiduna Anas ibn Mālik (رضي الله عنه) reported:

أقيمت الصلاة، فأقبل علينا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بوجهه، فقال: أقيموا صفوفكم وتراصوا، فإني أراكم من وراء ظهري
“The Iqāmah had been given, and the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) turned his face towards us and said: ‘Straighten your rows and stand close together, for I can see you from behind my back.’”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 719)

In another narration:

أقيموا صفوفكم، فإني أراكم من وراء ظهري، وكان أحدنا يلزق منكبه بمنكب صاحبه، وقدمه بقدمه
“Straighten your rows, for I can see you from behind my back. Then each of us would put his shoulder with his companion’s shoulder, and his foot with his foot.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 725)

Scholarly Commentary

❀ Ḥāfiẓ Ibn al-Mulaqqin (رحمه الله, d. 804H) said:

فيه دليل على جواز الكلام بين الإقامة والإحرام بالصلاة ولا بأس به عند الفقهاء الحجازيين، وهو رد على الكوفيين
“This ḥadīth is evidence that speaking between the Iqāmah and the Takbīrat al-Iḥrām is permissible. According to the jurists of the Ḥijāz, there is no harm in it, and this serves as a refutation of the Kufans.”
(al-Tawḍīḥ 6/597)

✅ Conclusion:
It is permissible to speak between the Iqāmah and the Takbīrat al-Taḥrīmah, as proven from authentic aḥādīth.
