❖ Question:

A friend’s sacrificial animal has fallen ill and there is fear that it may die. If the animal dies, will it be necessary to purchase another one?

❖ Answer:

✔ Regarding the Ruling of Sacrifice:

According to the preferred opinion, offering a sacrifice (Qurbani) is a Sunnah Mu’akkadah (emphasized Sunnah). It is neither Fardh (obligatory) nor Wajib (compulsory).

✔ If the Sacrificial Animal Dies:

If the animal dies, Allah ﷻ will surely grant reward according to the owner’s intention.
May Allah grant health to your animal.

✔ If the Animal Dies and One Cannot Afford Another:

If the animal dies and the owner does not have the financial means to purchase another one, then such a person will be considered excused in the sight of Allah.
In this case, there will be no sin upon them.

✔ If One Has the Financial Means:

If the person has the means to purchase another animal—even if it’s a less expensive one—then it is preferable to do so, so that they may still participate in this noble act.

✿ Note:

Both intention and financial capability play a significant role in the matter of sacrifice.
Allah grants reward based on sincere intention.
