Punishment for Accusing a Chaste Muslim Man of Adultery
Taken from: Fatawa Amunpuri by Shaykh Ghulam Mustafa Zaheer Amunpuri
Question:
What is the punishment for accusing a chaste Muslim man of adultery?
❖ Answer:
The punishment for accusing a chaste Muslim man of adultery is the same as for accusing a chaste Muslim woman. The prescribed punishment (hadd al-qadhf) is eighty lashes.
To establish the accusation of adultery, four just witnesses must be presented. If someone brings only three witnesses and fails to provide the fourth, the punishment of hadd al-qadhf will be implemented upon him, and his testimony will never be accepted again in any matter.
✿ Allah Almighty says:
(Surah al-Nur: 4)
“And those who accuse chaste women and do not bring four witnesses — flog them with eighty stripes and never accept their testimony again, for they indeed are the rebellious.”
✿ Hafiz Ibn Hajar (رحمه الله, 852H) said:
“Consensus has been established that the ruling for accusing a chaste man is the same as for accusing a chaste woman.”
(Fath al-Bari, 12/181)
