Prohibition of Wearing Silk
① Sayyiduna Anas رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
من لبس الحرير فى الدنيا لم يلبسه فى الآخرة
“Whoever wears silk in this world will not wear it in the Hereafter.”
② Sayyiduna Ibn Umar رضي الله عنهما narrates, I heard the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم say:
إنما يلبس الحرير من لا خلاق له
“Silk is only worn by one who has no share (in the Hereafter).”
③ Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir رضي الله عنه narrates, a silk robe was presented as a gift to the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم, so he wore it, then prayed in it. When he finished the prayer, he immediately took it off showing dislike, then said:
لا ينبغي هٰذا للمتقين
“This is against the dignity of the pious.”
④ It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Musa رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
حرم لباس الحرير والذهب على ذكور أمتي وأحل لإناثهم
“Silk clothing and gold have been made forbidden for the men of my Ummah and permissible for their women.”
Prohibition of Wearing Gold
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنهما that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم saw a man wearing a gold ring, so he took it off and threw it away. The Prophet صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
“One of you intends to hold a burning coal and places it on his hand.”
When the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم left, the man was told: “Pick up your ring and benefit from it.” He said: “No! By Allah! I will never pick it up because the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم has thrown it away.”
② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Saeed رضي الله عنه that a man from Najran came to the presence of the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم wearing a gold ring, so the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم turned away from him and said:
إنك جئتني وفي يدك جمرة من نار
“You have come to me while there is a burning coal in your hand.”
③ Sayyiduna Imam Malik رحمه الله states, I dislike that boys wear anything made of gold, because I have learned that the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم forbade wearing gold rings, and I dislike its wearing for men, whether they are old or young.
Prohibition of Walking with One Shoe
① It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (RA) that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said:
لا يمشي أحدكم فى نعل واحدة، لينعلهما جميعا أو ليخلعهما جميعا
“None of you should walk wearing one shoe; either wear both or take off both.”
