Prohibition of Listening to the Flute
① Sayyiduna Nafi’ (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates, I was going on a path with Sayyiduna Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with both of them) when he heard the sound of a flute, so he put his fingers in his ears and moved far to the other side of the path. When we had gone some distance, he asked me: Nafi’, do you hear anything? I said: No. Nafi’ narrates, then he removed his fingers from his ears and said: I was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he heard the sound of a flute, and he (peace be upon him) did the same as I did. Nafi’ narrates: I was young at that time.
Prohibition of Obesity
① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
خير أمتي القرن الذى بعثت فيهم ثم الذين يلونهم
“The best people of my Ummah are those in whose time I was sent, then the next generation after them.”
The narrator states: Allah knows best whether the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم mentioned the third generation or not?
The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said:
“Then there will come people who will like obesity and will be eager to give testimony before being asked for it.”
Prohibition of seeking information from soothsayers
① Safiyyah bint Abi Ubaid narrates from one of the wives of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, who narrated from the Prophet ﷺ that he said:
من أتى عرافا فسأله عن شيء فصدقه لم تقبل له صلاة أربعين يوما
“Whoever goes to a soothsayer or a fortune-teller and asks about something and then believes in what he says, the prayer of that person will not be accepted for forty days.”
② It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
من أتى كاهنا فصدقه بما يقول أو أتى امرأة فى دبرها ـ وفي رواية ـ أو امرأة حائضا فقد برئ مما أنزل على محمد
“Whoever goes to a soothsayer and believes what he says, or has intercourse with a woman from behind — and in another narration: or has intercourse with a menstruating woman — then he has no relation with the Shariah of Muhammad ﷺ.”
Prohibition of Insulting Lineage
① Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه narrates, the Messenger of Allah صلی اللہ علیہ وسلم said:
اثنتان فى الناس هما بهم كفر: الطعن فى النسب، والنياحة على الميت
“There are two traits among people because of which they fall into disbelief: insulting lineage and wailing over the dead.”
