No Adhan or Iqamah for Eid Prayer

❖ Neither Adhān Nor Iqāmah Is Prescribed for Eid Prayer
Islamic teachings clearly demonstrate that neither Adhān (call to prayer) nor Iqāmah (announcement of commencement) is prescribed for the Eid prayer. This is supported by authentic narrations from the noble Companions of the Prophet ﷺ.
➊ Narration of Jābir ibn Samurah (رضي الله عنه)
صليت مع النبى صلى الله عليه وسلم العيد غير مرة ولا مرتين بغير أذان ولا إقامة
“I offered the Eid prayer with the Prophet ﷺ not once or twice, but several times — without Adhān and without Iqāmah.”
— [Sahih Muslim: 887 | Musnad Ahmad: 5/91 | Abu Dawood: 1148 | Tirmidhi: 532]
This Hadith clearly affirms that the Prophet ﷺ did not command Adhān or Iqāmah for the Eid prayer, and this practice continued over multiple occasions.
➋ Narration of Ibn ʿAbbās (رضي الله عنهما)
لم يكن يؤذن يوم الفطر ولا يوم الأضحى
“There was no Adhān given on the day of Eid al-Fitr or Eid al-Adhā.”
— [Sahih al-Bukhari: 959–960 | Sahih Muslim: 776]
This report confirms that neither formality was practiced on the Eids, distinguishing this special prayer from the five daily prayers and Jumuʿah.
❖ Summary
◈ Eid prayer is performed without Adhān or Iqāmah, as per the consistent practice of the Prophet ﷺ and his noble Companions.
◈ This is a Sunnah-based distinction, preserved to this day and agreed upon by major scholars and jurists of Ahl al-Sunnah.
