❖ The Question
What is the last permissible time for offering the Fajr prayer?
❖ The Answer
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu wa-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd:
The last time for Fajr prayer is sunrise.
❀ ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar رضي الله عنهما narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
وقت الفجر ما لم تطلع الشمس
“The time for Fajr prayer lasts until the sun rises.”
(Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim, 612)
❀ Qāḍī ʿIyāḍ رحمه الله (d. 544H) said:
كافة العلماء وأئمة الفتوى أن آخر وقتها طلوع الشمس
“All scholars and jurists are agreed that the last time for Fajr prayer is at sunrise.”
(Ikmāl al-Muʿlim, 2/569)
❖ Conclusion
Therefore, the ending time for Fajr prayer is sunrise, and beyond that the prayer is invalid if deliberately delayed.
