Ruling on a Woman Giving Charity from Her Husband’s Wealth
Source: Fatawa Arkan-e-Islam
❀ Question:
Is it permissible for a woman to give charity from her husband’s wealth — either on her own behalf or on behalf of a deceased relative?
❀ Answer:
Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh. Ammā baʿd:
➊ It is well-known that a husband’s wealth is his personal property.
Therefore, no one has the right to dispose of it — including giving charity from it — without his permission.
➋ If the husband has granted permission for her to give charity from his wealth, whether on her own behalf or on behalf of a deceased relative, then there is no harm in doing so.
➌ However, if the husband has not given permission, then it is not permissible for the woman to give charity from his wealth, as it belongs to him exclusively.
◈ It is a foundational Islamic principle that no one may utilize another Muslim’s wealth without his clear and willing consent.
