❖ Question

Is it permissible in Islam to distribute jaggery (گڑ) or sugar among the rows of people before or after the Janāzah (funeral) prayer?

❖ Answer

Al-ḥamdu lillāh, waṣ-ṣalātu was-salāmu ʿalā Rasūlillāh, ammā baʿd!

✦ Clear Sharʿī Ruling:

➊ Distributing Jaggery or Sugar is a Bidʿah (Innovation)

◈ There is no evidence in the Qur’an or authentic Sunnah for this practice.
◈ Such actions are invented customs, not rooted in Sharʿī guidance.

➋ No Practice from the Prophet ﷺ or the Companions

✔ Neither the Prophet ﷺ nor his companions ever distributed sweets or food in funeral gatherings or prayer rows.
✔ Therefore, this practice is a cultural innovation and should be completely avoided.
