❖ Is It a Sin to Delete Islamic Messages from Mobile Devices? ❖
Source: Fatāwā ʿUlamāʾ Ahl al-Ḥadīth – Kitāb al-Ṣalāh, Volume 1
❖ Question:
Nowadays, mobile usage has become widespread. If we send someone an Islamic message—such as a Qur’anic verse, a Hadith, or other beneficial Islamic content—with the intention of conveying benefit, and the recipient deletes that message,
is it sinful to do so?
❖ Answer:
There is no harm in deleting such messages, and it is not sinful, because:
✔ It may be done out of necessity, for example,
✔ If the mobile storage is full, new messages cannot be received.
This is similar to:
- Turning off a mobile device,
- Deleting Qur’anic recitation or Islamic content from a computer,
- Or shutting down the computer altogether.
❖ However, a Condition Applies:
➤ The deletion must not be out of hatred, disdain, or contempt for the religious content.
➤ Rather, it should be done with due respect, and only for practical reasons.
