❖ Sharʿī Ruling on the Inheritance Share of a Daughter and Sisters ❖
Question:

If a deceased person is survived by only one daughter, has no sons or brothers, but has two sisters and their children, will the sisters receive a share in the inheritance?

Answer by:
Fadhīlat al-ʿĀlim Faḥd Anṣārī ḥafiẓahullāh
Fadhīlat al-ʿĀlim Ikrāmullāh Wāḥidī ḥafiẓahullāh

❀ Distribution of the Inheritance According to Sharīʿah:

✔ The daughter will receive ½ (one-half) of the total estate.
✔ The remaining ½ (one-half) will be equally divided between the two sisters.

🔹 Basis:

This division is in accordance with the Qur’anic inheritance laws as outlined in Surah An-Nisā’, where:

  • A single daughter inherits half of the estate.
  • In the absence of direct male heirs (like sons or brothers), siblings (sisters) can become residuary heirs (ʿaṣabah), sharing in the remainder.
