Poetry of Taste and Current Attitudes
“When does the bright conscience hide in worldly attire
Even in the garment of a lantern, the flame remains bare”
This couplet reflects our current attitudes. People try hard to hide their true emotions and character, but eventually their reality is revealed. Recent events have highlighted our social hypocrisy, where those who claim love and tolerance have turned away from their own principles.
Hypocrisy and Intolerance
◈ Those who preached peace, love, and tolerance were seen celebrating a death.
◈ Respect for emotions and feelings was completely ignored.
◈ The media gave limited coverage on this matter to prevent unrest, but social media crossed all limits.
◈ The silence of those opposed to the death penalty is astonishing.
Lessons from Tribal Values
◈ A friend mentioned that in tribal societies, even the enemy’s funeral is respected, and mourning is observed on that day.
◈ This attitude is a source of shame for our so-called “civilized” society, where instead of respecting funerals, hatred is being propagated.
Hypocrisy and Violation of Principles
◈ Those who speak emotionally about judicial decisions and human rights have themselves failed to adhere to their own principles.
The couplet of Zafar Iqbal applies to their behavior:
“If you have told a lie, then stand by it, Zafar
A person should be of good character”
◈ Considering someone’s death as a moral victory and then showing opportunism is the worst example of hypocrisy.
Need for Civilized Dialogue
◈ The conversation should be kept at a level where looking back at the past does not cause shame.
◈ Instead of a narrative based on revenge and hatred, tolerance and patience should be promoted.
◈ A judicial decision was implemented; rather than celebrating or mourning it, it is more important to remain steadfast in one’s principled stance.
Conclusion
It is time for us to reflect on our attitudes and move away from the narrative of hatred towards genuine civilized dialogue. Today, someone’s lamp is extinguished; tomorrow, it will be someone else’s turn. Keeping this reality in mind, we must create balance in our words and actions.
