عَنْ سُفْيَانَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ ، عَنْ أَبِي الزِّنَادِ ، عَنِ الأَعْرَجِ ، عَنْ أَبِي هُرَيْرَةَ ، أَنّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ ، قَالَ : " تَجِدُونَ النَّاسَ مَعَادِنَ فَخِيَارُهُمْ فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ خِيَارُهُمْ فِي الإِسْلامِ إِذَا فَقِهُوا " .
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "You will find people like mines (in some mines good ore is found and in some bad). Those who possessed good qualities in the time of ignorance will also possess good and better qualities after accepting Islam, provided they gain understanding of the religion."
