حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ الدَّرَاوَرْدِيُّ ، عَنْ يَزِيدَ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ أُسَامَةَ بْنِ الْهَادِ ، عَنْ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ الْحَارِثِ التَّيْمِيِّ ، أَنَّ قَتَادَةَ بْنَ النُّعْمَانِ وَقَعَ بِقُرَيْشٍ فَكَأَنَّهُ نَالَ مِنْهُمْ ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ : " مَهْلا يَا قَتَادَةُ لا تَشْتُمْ قُرَيْشًا فَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَّكَ تَرَى مِنْهُمْ رِجَالا أَوْ يَأْتِي مِنْهُمْ رِجَالٌ تَحْقِرُ عَمَلَكَ مَعَ عَمَلِهِمْ وَفِعَالَكَ مَعَ فِعَالِهِمْ وَتُعَظِّمُهُمْ إِذَا رَأَيْتَهُمْ لَوْلا أَنْ تَطْغَى قُرَيْشٌ لأَخْبَرْتُهَا بِالَّذِي لَهَا عِنْدَ اللَّهِ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ " .
Sayyiduna Qatadah bin Nu’man (may Allah be pleased with him) said something bad about the Quraysh, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Qatadah, restrain yourself regarding the Quraysh and do not insult them. Perhaps you will see that your deeds and actions are insignificant compared to those of a Qurayshi, and you will envy them when you see them. If it were not for the fear of the Quraysh’s arrogance, I would have told them what their status is with Allah.”
