His saying, Exalted is He: {O you who have believed, spend from the good things which you have earned and from that which We have produced for you from the earth. And do not aim toward the defective therefrom, spending [from that] while you would not take it [yourself] except with closed eyes.}

It is narrated from Mujahid (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding the statement of Allah, the Exalted: "Spend from the good things which you have earned" that he said: This refers to the earnings from trade. And regarding "and from what We have produced for you from the earth," he said: This refers to fruits and produce.

Narrated to us by Isma'il ibn Ibrahim, he said: Narrated to us by Salamah ibn Alqamah, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, I asked Ubaydah about His, the Mighty and Majestic, saying: "Spend from the good things which you have earned and from what We have produced for you from the earth, and do not aim at the bad thereof to spend (in charity)" (Surat al-Baqarah, Ayah 267), he said: "That is regarding zakat, and a counterfeit dirham is more beloved to me than a date."
